Let’s go for a drive

Enjoy the tune! It’s a bit too early for me to be up on a Sunday morning, my preference would be to take three hours to get ready in the morning everyday versus the typical daily morning rush. The house is very quiet, except for the Savannah temporary warning! A woman was jogging around the pond in the back so Savannah felt it necessary to alert the world!

I haven’t done anything yet this morning except throw on my favorite yoga pants and a sweatshirt and put the tea kettle on. I awoke a bit earlier than normal this morning and started to outline my day. The birds were chirping and the ceiling fan was circling slowly, throwing off just the perfect amount of a cool air in the otherwise still room! I was enjoying laying there not thinking about too much…but all it takes is my slight movement for our little girl to walk over to my side of the bed and softly whine for me to let her out. Sometimes I try to fake it, and keep my eyes closed tight…she’s too polite to continue to whine if she thinks I’m still sleeping! But ordinarily, I don’t have the heart to do that to her!

Enjoy the tune! So, the big guy is sleeping, but I went downstairs and brought Savannah outside. It’s a lovely day so far. The morning is still and crisp. The soft blue sky has some white clouds smeared here and there, enough so the white clouds are more bluish streaks than puffs of white fluffiness! The sun’s rays are pouring thru where they can, I think the sun too wants to wake up slowly this morning. The pond is relatively still. There is an occasional ripple here and there from the ever so slight current in the air, and then a teeny air bubble surfaces followed by the continuous forming circles that softly follow, it’s quite beautiful the morning stillness. However, this morning is a bit unusual in the sense that there is not much activity in the pond, no geese or herons are anywhere to be found. It’s a bit early yet to hear the plopping of the frogs quickly jumping in the pond as you pass by! And the birds are really enjoying the morning so far, I think they are happy that we are getting a break from the rain!

I’m sitting in my fancy room! I’ve always referenced my living room as this since my children were little. It didn’t matter which house it was we lived in, I’ve always had a fancy room! It’s the room where I choose to sip on a morning coffee or an afternoon tea! There’s no TV, or toys, or mess or horseplay allowed! My fancy room always has nice light, pretty sofas, fluffy fancy pillows, an end table with cute little poetic books I’ve collected, little fragile collectables, an area where soft burning scented candles glow and beautiful green plants. In this house, I’m blessed with lovely morning light pouring in on my plants. The plants are prolific growers in this gracious light, so every window has a cute table, plant stand or pot tucked close to it filled with luscious greenery! Some plants are even in bloom right now. A hibiscus bloom is beginning to greet the morning in one window, while the white Hawaiian Hoya plant has already been sharing her little waxy white star flowers for the last couple of days. And, if it were a bit cooler, I’d be inclined to have a soft golden glowing fire going. So I sit here, flowered coffee mug in hand and sip on warm smoky coffee and enjoy my plants, flowers, and prettiness in my fancy little room!

Yesterday, I felt a bit frazzled! I had so much to do! Laundry is calling, I have spring cleaning still not tackled, my coffee pot is broken, my floors need mopping, my mail is piled, I’m tired and I didn’t sleep well! I just put a skinny bagel in the toaster for Jaden, that’s all the bread I ever have in my house since we don’t eat bread anymore! I don’t think that’s what Jaden had in mind to eat, (he actually text his mom, I think he actually ratted on Gramma!) so I was just thinking, maybe I need to run to the market. Well all of a sudden my thoughts were halted! Mike just walked in, home from work early this morning! Then minutes later in a flurry my Missy came swinging through! My oh my that girl can use some meditation! We happily listened to news about her fun remodeling projects, and furniture choices and basic new home buyer excitement. And as fast as she entered, her and Jaden were off and on their way! Mike and I looked at each other and smiled and the house was once again quiet! So the big guy said, “What do you want to do?” So without hesitation, my worries and have-tos were out the window and I said “Let’s go for a ride! I wanna tryout my new camera!” So, in typical Mike fashion, he said ok, I’ll be in the car! Oh my, we are so yin and yang! I said in my screechy voice, “Mike I’m not even showered!) (seriously, did he not even notice my bed head hair!)  “Ok, I’ll be waiting outside! So the rush began!)

Oh darn! It’s published, no photos, no music, no final editing! So, stay tuned for more later, I can’t quite figure out draft mode on my iPad yet! It’s breakfast time and once again reality creeps into my fancy room! :o)

So, here’s a few new pics. No awarding winning photos, just a little bit of life in McHenry County on a weekend in April!

Oh My God, he’s dead!

I’ve been in the printing business a good part of my life. In my recent years, more art related. Call me crazy, maybe it’s the artist in me, but most artists are emotional! Yeah, I DO think so, I’m around all of them everyday, and we all are emotional! (Well, maybe some our cool and calm, but for the most part we are emotional creatures! Let’s see if I get any comments on this one!) We pour our love into our creations and artwork, we get excited about stickers, we LOVE ETSY, we LOVE LindaGeez, we love West Elm, we LOVE letterpress letters (ok, I love letterpress letters), we love Target, we get excited about paper and envelopes and crystals and yes, we even love colored Sharpies! Yes, I’ve been known to say, I can’t WAIT to go shopping for all the little things that I don’t need! That is the funnest stuff to shop for! So anyway, you get the idea! There are great days, and not so great days, but all and all, we stay CALM AND CARRY ON!

Me and Mike, Anniversary 2013

Me and Mike, Anniversary 2013

But this day, happened to be a really good day! My LindaGeez shop was doing exceptionally well, I received some really nice feedback and I was feeling good!  You’ll feel good too!

So I got home in about the same amount of time as usual.  Mike and I got home just about the same time this day. So, it was going to take me a bit to make dinner, sooo, the big guy thought he’d do his exercise early that night! I had a bunch of cooking to do, so he had plenty of time!

So, I thought, let me pack up my LindaGeez jewelry orders, and my LindaGeezFlowerPower Letterpress letters to ship out! I’ll get that done real quick and be right back up to finish dinner! So, I ran down into my workshop in the basement and went to my shipping table. Normally, it’s so quiet when I’m in my jewelry room! When I’m designing, I usually have my iPod on, but, I was enjoying the quiet and I thought, well, I just have a few things to pack, so I didn’t have any music on. Well to my surprise I heard a lot going on upstairs! The exercise room was right above me. I heard this noise and then this loud moan and thump! I quickly turned around! I tried to fly upstairs with my warm furry croc shoes that I wear in the basement, grabbing onto the stair rail! I flew into the room praying not knowing what to expect…………….

So, let me set the stage, here’s what I walked into…. Here’s Mike, white socks, burgundy and ivory jammy shorts (very old, a bit too short, a bit too tight, crooked), shirtless, Big leather Bose headphones, moaning (singing) to Led Zeppelin….happy as a lark! Naturally he doesn’t hear me flying into the room, his music was loud enough to pierce his eardrums wearing his soundproof headphones and his back was facing me! So, I totally startled him! My heart was beating like crazy and filled with relief, I just about died laughing! He was into his routine and didn’t stop and I left the room, closed the door, stayed calm and carried on!

So, I guess that’s the lesson learned! Stay calm and carry on!

Life is busy! I have lots of things to take care of, lots of things to do, usually not a bit of extra time! But, I must say, my hobbies keep me balanced, give me a bit of carefree time and I enjoy how much my customers love my creations! It gives me great satisfaction to read the feedback my customers give me! In fact, I appreciate my customers  loyalty so much, I often like to take the opportunity to thank them! It’s because of them, that my little LindaGeez shop is growing so much! So several times a year, I email my customers secret coupons codes to use in my shop for any of their purchases! It’s my way of saying thank you back to them for coming back time and time again! You too, can get these secret sales emailed to you once you purchase from my LindaGeez shop! So,  take a moment to browse through my shop and see what makes everyone keep coming back for more of my jewelry! I love shopping for the nicest stones and gemstones, handmaking PMC fine silver pieces, hand forging metal pieces, and designing great pieces of jewelry you will treasure forever! So, when you have time, take a peek at my wee little shop! LindaGeez! Thanks for all your support, I love you!

Evil Ways…baby!

07 Evil Ways (enjoy the tune by Santana) I think they’re gone…for the most part! Since mid January, cold turkey, we changed our evil addiction to carbs! Yep, gone from our lives…well, mostly! Once you adapt to this eating lifestyle, the cravings for sweet, and even salty foods start subsiding.

The most difficult part of the diet is the additional time for grocery shopping, and the extra time in the kitchen. Also, I must say it is much more costly to shop for fresh, and organic foods rather than processed foods. I don’t think I’ve ever seen coupons for fresh beets, or baby carrots, or even brussel sprouts! I mean seriously, how cheap is it to whip up a delicious pasta meal with fresh warm bread! That is something I haven’t allowed myself to enjoy since January! That is the hard part, because I love fettuccine, ciabatta, biscotti, all those things, but I’ve changed!

my tea party breakfast

my tea party breakfast

The nice part, is the big guy too has adopted this new lifestyle change. And although he doesn’t share in the task of cooking, he is 100% enjoying the new food line up too! It’s great to have someone diet and eat healthy along with you! So, Saturdays we stop at Fresh Market for organic eggs, hormone  & antibiotic free chickens, beets, fresh pinneapple…etc.! (Of course the big guy is lined up with the kids for a free cookie, the only time the guy will get a treat because they are off the grocery list! Mike is not quite set free from goodies 01 You Keep Me Hangin’ On Enjoy the Tune by Vanilla Fudge!) These fresh chickens are now cooked in the crock pot for Mikes lunch, no more lunchmeat or processed foods!

Mike's lunch

Mike’s lunch

And every dinner includes a huge salad, fruit and veggies. Sometimes salad is the dinner, other times perhaps, I also serve salmon, or crab cakes or chicken or some other lean protein! But always a salad and at least two vegetables are served with dinner!

a yummy salad for dinner

Mike does have Special K in the morning, and a 100 Calorie bagel with his chicken at lunch, but I do not indulge in those simple pleasures! And no more granola bars, and pretzels, and animal crackers and cheez-its!  Also gone are  breads, crackers, processed foods and frozen lunch meals. I have allowed myself a few Way Better Snack chips from Fresh Market a couple of times on the weekend.  These chips are  blue corn chips made with flax, chia seed, quinoa, radish seed and other good stuff. But besides that, no special treats!

Saturdays are my baking day for the week!  No more grocery store muffins! So baking now includes Almond flour. I’ve given up the processed white flour! I have found that Honeyville flour online is the tastiest and also priced the best. Still expensive, but bakes delicious dense muffins!

some of my ingredients for baking

So, before I close, I will include another Paleo recipe that I modified to my liking. It is so yummy! You will find that baking with almond flour yields a very filling dense muffin! These are very satisfying! So, give almond flour a try! I think you will love these!

Pumpkin Raisin Muffins (18 muffins)

  • 2 cups almond flour
  • 1 small can pumpkin
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup almond butter (this is not butter, it’s like peanut butter only almond butter)
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tsp baking power
  • 2 rounded tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 – 1 cup raisins
  • Walnut Halves

Preheat oven to 350 F. Combine all the ingredients and mix well. Use muffin liners and line the muffin tin. Fill the liners a bit more than 3/4, almost filled, these type of muffins don’t rise as high as regular flour muffins. Add a walnuts half on the top. Bake 35 minutes or till toothpick comes out clean.

Hope you love them!

So, this week, I’ve got quite a few new things going on. I just bought a new Nikon D7000 to replace my old Nikon D70. (I can’t wait to blog about this!) I’m anxious to get out there and take pictures…the spring flowers can’t pop up fast enough! AND, it should take some awesome photos of my new jewelry ( LindaGeez jewelry) with my new macro lens! And, I have some new jewelry I’m finishing up, and new recipes to try and the list goes on!

But, the exciting news for you, my customers, is I have my customer appreciation sale going on! Check your email for your coupon codes for discounts! If you didn’t receive an email, or your address has changed,  you can email me for the coupon codes, or comment with an email address and I will email you the discount!

So, have a wonderful holiday weekend! Enjoy eating and shopping and being with your family! And when you have some quiet time, please take a peek at my shop! I’m sure you will enjoy some of my new jewelry!

And, please in support of the Human Rights Campaign listen to Cyndi Laupers song…still beautiful! Enjoy the tune! 12 True Colors

I recommend biting off more then you can chew to anyone, I certainly do

just a bit of my letters

07 You Learn Listen to the tune! In typical Linda style, when I like something, I tend to really get carried away! It is so fun to collect! And what makes it even more fun, the big guy likes to collect too….one influencing the other, a dangerous combo! So we like to go to vintage shops, search for estate sales, look for rare finds and enjoy the history these old pieces offer us….and boy oh boy, if some of these old things could tell us their stories!

These are some of my letterpress wooden letters collection! (I have metal letters too!) My collection began by accident when I found some letters in a local vintage shop. We were shopping around Valentine’s Day and I found the letters XOXO! I thought, how cute to put these letters on my fireplace mantle! Well, it became an obsession for me…and the search was on! I began searching for big letters, small letters, upper case letters, lower case letters, metal letters, wood letters, drawers for letters….anything letterpress. (I’ve always been fascinated with the printing industry) This is my drawer of letters, I sort alphabetically (just like my spices!). So, in addition to my collection, I’m enjoying selling some of my letters also! It’s fun to see other people too enjoying these letters! I sometimes think….maybe I’m getting a little carried away, but just as I think I might have too many letters around the house, I have someone loving these letters too….and so the collection continues to grow!

a bit of radios and clocsk

a bit of radios and clocks

But, I’m not the only one that has a love for collecting. So does the big guy….aka Mike! He LOVES radios and clocks! The cool thing about his collection, he collects broken radios and clocks and then repairs them! These are just a few of his pieces!

Fifty Ways

question05 50 Ways to Say Goodbye (listen to the tune) Where have I been? Well, I have too many hobbies and work too many hours….don’t we all! Time has escaped me and I have not hardly written at all! So, what has driven me to the keyboard? Well, there are more than 50 reasons I am saying goodbye to processed foods and reducing carbs.

Fast forward, It’s been one month! I have had no pasta, no rice, no crackers, and the only flour I’ve had has been in the pumpkin muffins that I bake on Saturdays! This is a pretty big deal, not because I don’t like to eat healthy, more because the amount of time I am spending shopping for fresh vegetables, fruits and cooking! The hours in the kitchen have been increased! It’s hard to fit everything in on a daily basis. It seems dinner is a little later now, there are more trips to the grocery store, and no easy does it I think I will stop at Panda Express on the way home with dinner! But, I am dedicated to this new lifestyle change for health reasons and to help me lose weight. So goodbye to Panera Bread, Starbucks, Panda Express, Olive Garden, and more….haven’t been there in a month!

The great part is Mike is doing this with me! That makes it so much nicer! Although he isn’t a cook, he is 100% in agreement to try to eat healthier, and will eat anything I prepare! This is quite a feat for the big cookie monster that he is! He does have a sweet tooth, that is for sure! And along with a better eating lifestyle, we are BOTH hitting the exercise room….elliptical and exercise bike, here I come. Weights are being added again next week!

So, I thought along with writing about my hobbies, my letterpress letter collection, my wee jewelry making business, and my family, I thought I’d add a bit of our new healthy exercise and dieting lifestyle change. I must admit, I’m never really hungry, but sometimes I do miss pasta and warm crispy bread and butter! (I do still count calories too, I have an App for my phone so I’m always aware) And, I feel like I can’t fit another minute into my day! Sometimes it’s after 9:00 pm before I get into my exercise room. But, today is Saturday, and both Mike and I both have our exercising done already today!

So, I’d like to share one of my new recipes that I made today, then I’m off to the kitchen to prepare our dinner!

I used Bob’s Red Mill Flour Meal, however, it is quite costly, it was just about $12.00 for less than 1 pound at the store. So, now that I have tried almond flour and I like the results and taste, I am going to use Honeyville Almond Flour, it’s supposed to be even more tasty! It’s $31.99 for 5 pounds….still expensive, but how about that Starbucks….it’s all the way you look at things! http://store.honeyvillegrain.com Also, I just put walnuts on the top only to reduce the calorie content of the muffin. And, a little less honey too.

So, here’s the Recipe

muffinsAlmond Meal Banana Nut Muffins

  • 3 cups blanched almond flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 2-3 (I used 3) bananas mashed
  • 1/2 c honey
  • 1/4 melted coconut oil or butter (I used butter, next time I’m trying olive oil)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (darn, I forgot that)
  • 1/4 chopped nuts (I just put a whole one or pieces on the top

Yes, I wonder often why it is that I live in Illinois…my whole entire life I’ve lived here! I have visited California a couple of times and oh, I do love that state. I can’t imagine what life is without mittens, scarves and boots in the middle of January! I can’t imagine not spending 2 hours getting home from work on snow days! I can’t imagine not living in plant zone 5 where my beautiful plants droop and sleep for the winter time! I can’t imagine being able to get into the car and drive to the oceanside for an afternoon! I can’t imagine what it would be like to go and pick a lemon off a tree in my background! All things that one time in my life I wish I could experience. Yes, I am a California girl wanna be!

01 California Dreamin’ 2 And, maybe this is why I relate to California girls so well! Yes, the last 19 of my 26 sales have been from California! So, I guess that kinda proves that California loves me back! :o) Take a peek at just a few purchases from my California girlfriends!
