Oh My God, he’s dead!

I’ve been in the printing business a good part of my life. In my recent years, more art related. Call me crazy, maybe it’s the artist in me, but most artists are emotional! Yeah, I DO think so, I’m around all of them everyday, and we all are emotional! (Well, maybe some our cool and calm, but for the most part we are emotional creatures! Let’s see if I get any comments on this one!) We pour our love into our creations and artwork, we get excited about stickers, we LOVE ETSY, we LOVE LindaGeez, we love West Elm, we LOVE letterpress letters (ok, I love letterpress letters), we love Target, we get excited about paper and envelopes and crystals and yes, we even love colored Sharpies! Yes, I’ve been known to say, I can’t WAIT to go shopping for all the little things that I don’t need! That is the funnest stuff to shop for! So anyway, you get the idea! There are great days, and not so great days, but all and all, we stay CALM AND CARRY ON!

Me and Mike, Anniversary 2013

Me and Mike, Anniversary 2013

But this day, happened to be a really good day! My LindaGeez shop was doing exceptionally well, I received some really nice feedback and I was feeling good!  You’ll feel good too!

So I got home in about the same amount of time as usual.  Mike and I got home just about the same time this day. So, it was going to take me a bit to make dinner, sooo, the big guy thought he’d do his exercise early that night! I had a bunch of cooking to do, so he had plenty of time!

So, I thought, let me pack up my LindaGeez jewelry orders, and my LindaGeezFlowerPower Letterpress letters to ship out! I’ll get that done real quick and be right back up to finish dinner! So, I ran down into my workshop in the basement and went to my shipping table. Normally, it’s so quiet when I’m in my jewelry room! When I’m designing, I usually have my iPod on, but, I was enjoying the quiet and I thought, well, I just have a few things to pack, so I didn’t have any music on. Well to my surprise I heard a lot going on upstairs! The exercise room was right above me. I heard this noise and then this loud moan and thump! I quickly turned around! I tried to fly upstairs with my warm furry croc shoes that I wear in the basement, grabbing onto the stair rail! I flew into the room praying not knowing what to expect…………….

So, let me set the stage, here’s what I walked into…. Here’s Mike, white socks, burgundy and ivory jammy shorts (very old, a bit too short, a bit too tight, crooked), shirtless, Big leather Bose headphones, moaning (singing) to Led Zeppelin….happy as a lark! Naturally he doesn’t hear me flying into the room, his music was loud enough to pierce his eardrums wearing his soundproof headphones and his back was facing me! So, I totally startled him! My heart was beating like crazy and filled with relief, I just about died laughing! He was into his routine and didn’t stop and I left the room, closed the door, stayed calm and carried on!

So, I guess that’s the lesson learned! Stay calm and carry on!

Life is busy! I have lots of things to take care of, lots of things to do, usually not a bit of extra time! But, I must say, my hobbies keep me balanced, give me a bit of carefree time and I enjoy how much my customers love my creations! It gives me great satisfaction to read the feedback my customers give me! In fact, I appreciate my customers  loyalty so much, I often like to take the opportunity to thank them! It’s because of them, that my little LindaGeez shop is growing so much! So several times a year, I email my customers secret coupons codes to use in my shop for any of their purchases! It’s my way of saying thank you back to them for coming back time and time again! You too, can get these secret sales emailed to you once you purchase from my LindaGeez shop! So,  take a moment to browse through my shop and see what makes everyone keep coming back for more of my jewelry! I love shopping for the nicest stones and gemstones, handmaking PMC fine silver pieces, hand forging metal pieces, and designing great pieces of jewelry you will treasure forever! So, when you have time, take a peek at my wee little shop! LindaGeez! Thanks for all your support, I love you!

Evil Ways…baby!

07 Evil Ways (enjoy the tune by Santana) I think they’re gone…for the most part! Since mid January, cold turkey, we changed our evil addiction to carbs! Yep, gone from our lives…well, mostly! Once you adapt to this eating lifestyle, the cravings for sweet, and even salty foods start subsiding.

The most difficult part of the diet is the additional time for grocery shopping, and the extra time in the kitchen. Also, I must say it is much more costly to shop for fresh, and organic foods rather than processed foods. I don’t think I’ve ever seen coupons for fresh beets, or baby carrots, or even brussel sprouts! I mean seriously, how cheap is it to whip up a delicious pasta meal with fresh warm bread! That is something I haven’t allowed myself to enjoy since January! That is the hard part, because I love fettuccine, ciabatta, biscotti, all those things, but I’ve changed!

my tea party breakfast

The nice part, is the big guy too has adopted this new lifestyle change. And although he doesn’t share in the task of cooking, he is 100% enjoying the new food line up too! It’s great to have someone diet and eat healthy along with you! So, Saturdays we stop at Fresh Market for organic eggs, hormone  & antibiotic free chickens, beets, fresh pinneapple…etc.! (Of course the big guy is lined up with the kids for a free cookie, the only time the guy will get a treat because they are off the grocery list! Mike is not quite set free from goodies 01 You Keep Me Hangin’ On Enjoy the Tune by Vanilla Fudge!) These fresh chickens are now cooked in the crock pot for Mikes lunch, no more lunchmeat or processed foods!

Mike's lunch

And every dinner includes a huge salad, fruit and veggies. Sometimes salad is the dinner, other times perhaps, I also serve salmon, or crab cakes or chicken or some other lean protein! But always a salad and at least two vegetables are served with dinner!

a yummy salad for dinner

Mike does have Special K in the morning, and a 100 Calorie bagel with his chicken at lunch, but I do not indulge in those simple pleasures! And no more granola bars, and pretzels, and animal crackers and cheez-its!  Also gone are  breads, crackers, processed foods and frozen lunch meals. I have allowed myself a few Way Better Snack chips from Fresh Market a couple of times on the weekend.  These chips are  blue corn chips made with flax, chia seed, quinoa, radish seed and other good stuff. But besides that, no special treats!

Saturdays are my baking day for the week!  No more grocery store muffins! So baking now includes Almond flour. I’ve given up the processed white flour! I have found that Honeyville flour online is the tastiest and also priced the best. Still expensive, but bakes delicious dense muffins!

So, before I close, I will include another Paleo recipe that I modified to my liking. It is so yummy! You will find that baking with almond flour yields a very filling dense muffin! These are very satisfying! So, give almond flour a try! I think you will love these!

Pumpkin Raisin Muffins (18 muffins)

  • 2 cups almond flour
  • 1 small can pumpkin
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup almond butter (this is not butter, it’s like peanut butter only almond butter)
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tsp baking power
  • 2 rounded tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 – 1 cup raisins
  • Walnut Halves

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 F. Combine all the ingredients and mix well. Use muffin liners and line the muffin tin. Fill the liners a bit more than 3/4, almost filled, these type of muffins don’t rise as high as regular flour muffins. Add a walnuts half on the top. Bake 35 minutes or till toothpick comes out clean.

Hope you love them!

So, this week, I’ve got quite a few new things going on. I just bought a new Nikon D7000 to replace my old Nikon D70. (I can’t wait to blog about this!) I’m anxious to get out there and take pictures…the spring flowers can’t pop up fast enough! AND, it should take some awesome photos of my new jewelry ( LindaGeez jewelry) with my new macro lens! And, I have some new jewelry I’m finishing up, and new recipes to try and the list goes on!

But, the exciting news for you, my customers, is I have my customer appreciation sale going on! Check your email for your coupon codes for discounts! If you didn’t receive an email, or your address has changed,  you can email me for the coupon codes, or comment with an email address and I will email you the discount!

I recommend biting off more then you can chew to anyone, I certainly do

just a bit of my letters

07 You Learn Listen to the tune! In typical Linda style, when I like something, I tend to really get carried away! It is so fun to collect! And what makes it even more fun, the big guy likes to collect too….one influencing the other, a dangerous combo! So we like to go to vintage shops, search for estate sales, look for rare finds and enjoy the history these old pieces offer us….and boy oh boy, if some of these old things could tell us their stories!

These are some of my letterpress wooden letters collection! (I have metal letters too!) My collection began by accident when I found some letters in a local vintage shop. We were shopping around Valentine’s Day and I found the letters XOXO! I thought, how cute to put these letters on my fireplace mantle! Well, it became an obsession for me…and the search was on! I began searching for big letters, small letters, upper case letters, lower case letters, metal letters, wood letters, drawers for letters….anything letterpress. (I’ve always been fascinated with the printing industry) This is my drawer of letters, I sort alphabetically (just like my spices!). So, in addition to my collection, I’m enjoying selling some of my letters also! It’s fun to see other people too enjoying these letters! I sometimes think….maybe I’m getting a little carried away, but just as I think I might have too many letters around the house, I have someone loving these letters too….and so the collection continues to grow!

a bit of radios and clocsk

a bit of radios and clocks

But, I’m not the only one that has a love for collecting. So does the big guy….aka Mike! He LOVES radios and clocks! The cool thing about his collection, he collects broken radios and clocks and then repairs them! These are just a few of his pieces!

Call Me Maybe!

18 California Nights You know, I love California! :o) I’ve always been a California Dreamin’ girl in my heart! Yes, I wonder often why it is that I live in Illinois…my whole entire life I’ve lived here! I have visited California a couple of times and oh, I do love that state. I can’t imagine what life is without mittens, scarves and boots in the middle of January! I can’t imagine not spending 2 hours getting home from work on snow days! I can’t imagine not living in plant zone 5 where my beautiful plants droop and sleep for the winter time! I can’t imagine being able to get into the car and drive to the oceanside for an afternoon! I can’t imagine what it would be like to go and pick a lemon off a tree in my background! All things that one time in my life I wish I could experience. Yes, I am a California girl wanna be!

01 California Dreamin’ 2 And, maybe this is why I relate to California girls so well! Yes, the last 19 of my 26 sales have been from California! So, I guess that kinda proves that California loves me back! :o) Take a peek at just a few purchases from my California girlfriends!

It’s certainly makes all my effort worth while! And, checkout the feedback these girlfriends write in my shop! WOW! So, along with the excitement my customers share with me, well, I’m happy to say, me and the big guy talk about jewelry and gemstones just as much, I’m sure every day! Right now I am awaiting 4 slabs of Turquoise that the big buy is going to make some cabochons for me to make into jewerly! I must say, from the minute I get up, my mind is whirling with jewelry thoughts! And, now, I’ve been buying gemstones that are the colors of my flowers in bloom! Nature does inspire me so much!

I do wish I had even more time for jewelry making! I wish I could afford to make the career move to do this full time, unfortunately that’s not something that I could do!  But, that makes me love my jewelry making time even more! I do know that this will be my choice when I do retire from the 9-5 world! How fun would that be….gemshow shopping trips with the big guy, jewelry making into the night (ahhh, late night is my favorite time to create!)

A Dog’s Life

So, it’s been so long since I’ve written on my blog! I’ve been a less than my cheerful self lately. Life has it highs and it’s lows and sometimes somewhere in between. And, being the emotional creature that I am,  I tend to sort things out on my own. I love music, and lately it’s been girl power songs, so take a minute to enjoy this song by Kelly Clarkson.02 Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)

You know, I am a pretty lucky lady! I have a really big fan club! I have my sister Suze,  my friend Allison, and of course Mike…they love EVERY piece of jewelry I make. They are so inspiring! But sometimes…it just happens… I get in a lull and not so inspired.

Karen's Lanyard

So, out of the blue I get a note from a lady about wanting a lanyard! Karen was browsing on my LindaGeezToo etsy page, and found me. Well, I never made one, but it’s something that I have thought about doing!  But, if you’re like me it’s on the long list of things I want to make! (let me rephrase that, Mike thought that was something I should make! Heck I didn’t even know what a lanyard was….but he was thinking more for fly fishing! He likes giving me jewelry tips! He’s such a fashionista! :o) LOL, really?)

So, back to the story…SO, all it took was one little conversation for me to recognize that this lady sounded like a kind soul, someone I would LOVE to make something for! She talked about wanting crystal and moonstone and maybe pink, and little dog charms and chakra inspired! So, this was the beginning of a very nice friendship forming, I could just tell! Well, after several emails, I felt a real desire to make something this kind soul would LOVE! And, I did! But the best part about it, she LOVED it too! But, let’s backup a bit…even before I started her lovely lanyard, Karen and I spoke often, the wonders of today’s electronic world! I just love that about technology today. I have met wonderful people that I never would have had the opportunity to meet had I not had an Etsy account and email! To my surprise though, not only did we have a love for our doggies, but a lot of similarities! We talked about her volunteering her time to help homeless animals, and animal therapy, and gardening and making soap and love of herbs,  and simply just wonderful conversation!  I have so many wonderful people that I have met, such lovely experiences. One kind soul reaching to another, just as it should be! Like I say often, “All You Need is Love” Listen to one of my favorite songs by the Beatles 1-18 All You Need Is Love

So, her lanyard is now done! I LOVE it, but I’m happy to say Karen LOVES it at well! Lots of love went into making this and I’m sending her good energy and her beautiful lanyard tomorrow! But, there is another really sweet thing about Karen that I must share! Even before I finished her lanyard, Karen was so sweet and sent me a package filled with some of her favorite flower seeds and herbs! What a sweetheart! That was the beginning of my thoughts shifting from blues to inspiration. Thank you Karen!

So, I must say, I DO believe in angels, just when I was thinking that life is a bummer, somehow my guardian angel pulls through again! Count your blessings, be grateful, don’t waste your precious life being blue, and believe! Enjoy this beautiful song by Sarah McLachlan 14 Angel

Natural Kingman Turquoise, Swarovski Crystal, Natural leather

Karen's Lanyard

So, thank you my friends for inspiring me! And now, my mind is spinning with new styles and new ideas and my inspiration is once again flowing! So, more leather & crystal is ordered, great gemstones chosen, and a wonderful friend is on the waiting list for her very special long and beautiful leather, crystal and gemstone necklace!

So, take a moment to browse my Etsy shops! I’m sure you will enjoy it, and feel free to send me a conv0…that’s Etsy talk for send an email to me!

Love and Peace…Linda

Praise for the Morning!

11 Morning Has Broken  Enjoy this song!

So I started my day of leisure with a cup of coffee and a yummy healthy breakfast! Oh boy, do I wish I could do this every morning! See today was the last day of my vacation from my day job!  My first day off started with a bad storm that left many of our towns without electricity!  Thank goodness we were blessed enough to just be without power for a bit and nothing more serious than that in our house! I am thankful!

So, it was too short, very sweet, and I must say, I could get used to this! “My Girl”, Savannah was happy to be lounging outside, soaking up the sun! And then when it got too much, well, she just moved over to the shady part of the yard! When I call her to go in, she starts her stalling tactics. She then starts walking around pretending she needs to take care of business! She of course wins everytime!

And today my Rose of Sharon bloomed! It’s a magnificent flower, it reminds me of a Hibiscus which I really love also!  So, I thought that I would share with you some of my flowers in todays garden!

Pretty Coleus

Pretty Yellow Begonias

Pretty Orange Begonias

Beautiful St. Johns Wort

Pretty flowering basket

Pretty Birdhouse

Gorgeous Rose of Sharon

I couldn’t help myself! I could have carried on all day long taking beautiful shots! But, I had to get back to reality! boohoo

But, I have also been making some beautiful jewelry! All the jewelry is filled with garden colors! My flowers inspire me so much! So, when you have some time to sit and browse, please stop by and visit my little jewelry shop and other shops too!

Love and Peace…Linda

Thankful for electricity!

New Guinea Impatiens and Rose of Sharon

1-15 Turn On Your Love Light

Please enjoy the music by Bobby Blue Band! a little play on the light thing!

So, the beginning of my week, certainly wasn’t as planned! 7:00 a.m. the sun was shining! How exciting! So, I think I’ll open the blinds and just lay hear and soak up the morning sun….and I started planning my day! Well, just about the time I crawled back in bed to enjoy the sunshine, a storm broke loose! Well, for that 25 minutes it was CRAZY! The wind was wild, the trees were sideways the rain was dancing crazy on the pond and the sky was black! Then, silence, complete silence. There wasn’t a sound to be heard, along with the loss of our electricity! I didn’t think much at first! But then, it continued to be quiet for a few hours. Without electricity, I really didn’t hear the news or anything, so I was not aware how bad it was! I text the big guy, told him our electricity was off and I got the bad news, “they say it might be days”! What! What happened to my plans! A bit selfish, but all I could think of was that this was the week I was dreaming of, a week off my day job to do as I would like! I stuffed the frig and freezer with good food for a week of cooking, coffee on the porch, gazing at the birds, and Jewelry Making! So, Monday, no power, Tuesday, no power, but still hopeful! By Wednesday I was really cranky now and knew all my good food was spoiling!  3:00 p.m. we had lights!

Well, now came all the sad news. Four of our saltwater fish did not make it! It was so sad! They were big bold beautiful yellow Tangs and another purple Tang.  Nemo, Dori and Homer the Blenny and the Pajama Cardinals made it!

On to the refrigerator, well, all the good stuff was thawed, dripping and no longer good! Tell me why, the shrimp, the steaks, the berries, the chicken kiev (to name a few) all the good stuff….not good…but the 2lb packages of hamburger were fine!

I’m over it today and feeling foolish! At least today, we can go back to our conveniences and carry on! But, many people have devastating months ahead when a storm passes through their town.

My NEW Rose Bush!

So, today, coffee on the porch with Savannah, a slice of toast, and cool yogurt with strawberries…and counting my blessings!

Here’s another pretty rose flower! And just wait, my Rose of Sharon should be bursting open soon!

Now, off to my workshop to make jewelry! Woohoo! Jewelry, photographs and postings to come! So, stay tuned and visit my LindaGeez soon!

Also, I’m not ready to give up on my BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS! I’m just not selling them on my LindaGeez Shop, so I OPENED UP A NEW ETSY SHOP just for my beautiful flowers! It’s LindaGeezFlowerPower! Please check it out, you will love my beautiful flowers!
