it’s a beautiful morning

01 A Beautiful Morning

So, here it is a Saturday and I’m doing what I love best…let the moment guide me to happiness! Yes, of course I have plans, rather HAD plans for this wonderful day! But, my favorite thing on my day off is a little bit of this, a little bit of that! The day usually doesn’t progress quite like my initial plans as they were forming in my mind as I lay still trying to open my sleepy eyes! Somehow, the garden always deviates me a bit from the master plan (although “the plan” is always open to revision and rewriting!) (Another pretty song to enjoy 12 Good Morning Starshine

So Jaden is here with us for the weekend! This is always a welcome addition to the weekend agenda! The adventures began last night….first Culvers for dinner followed by ice cream! (they have nothing that I would consider anywhere near the caloric intake I would have liked to have for dinner….I’m sure the veggie burger and cheese fries were beyond my daily limit of calories!) But, after all it was fun Friday, right? So somehow, a trip to Crystal Lake for an ink cartridge, somehow resulted in Culvers, ice cream, an iPod cover and a new xBox game….and they didn’t even have the ink cartridge! I guess that’s what happens when your grandson is with you….the evening gets revised and rewritten!  But he is so worth it! :o)

My little buddy keeps checking out the blog, waiting to see what I might put in my blog about him! Gosh, G’Ma can’t get away with anything, however, he’s gone now so I can put in a pic from a bit ago! tee hee hee!

So, the day is a simple one here for all of us!  I started out walking around gazing at the bushes and flowers beginning to pop open in the yard…which is why tomorrow will be a trip to the nursery for some new blooms to purchase! And, all of us here are occupying ourselves in our own bit of happiness. Jaden is playing xBox, Savannah is sleeping, I’m doing a bit of this and that, and PaPa is getting the garage cleaned.

But, I couldn’t let the day pass without sharing a few more magnolia blooms pics! It’s rare here in Illinois when these early blooming trees don’t get ruined from the irregular spring temperatures. Usually as these blooms are forming, we get some sort of cold weather or frost and the petals often get the edges browned or the petals start to fall after just a couple of days! But this year, spring has sprung early and the yard is filled with the beginnings of beautiful spring blooms! I see hostas popping us, Lilac buds forming, my Quince bushes coral buds forming, the Columbine’s beautiful leaves have emerged from the soil, and, well, many more beauties just waiting for a bit more warmth and sunshine!

So, I’ll leave you with a pretty flower and a pretty song and wish for a great weekend! Enjoy the song!

Now, onto my jewelry making! :o)

03 My Girl (Stereo) (Click to download music)

This morning I awoke to a soft little whimper! Of course Savannah would not be loud while I am still sleeping….just enough voice to get my attention! What a sweet little lady she is!  So, as usual, I said, “Do you have to go out sweetie”, and  she patiently waited while I got up, put something warm on, got my slippers, then she pranced along with me to go outside! She always wakes ME up, as I don’t care if it’s 3:00 in the morning, I will never let her have to wait to go outside….how would you like it! (smile)

That pretty much sums up My Girl…she is the sweetest dog there is! Of course, you know the story about Savannah…My Girl was my Top Post for 2010! Isn’t that the cutest thing! It just goes to show that our sweet little furry pets ARE MAN’S BEST FRIEND (or women’s)!  I got these fun facts about my blog with an e-mail from WordPress this morning!

When I first thought of writing a blog, I thought, hmmm, well who will want to read my little tid bits of everyday simple life! After all, we are simple people! Nothing that out of the ordinary about our life! But, through all the blogs,  a bit of sunshine & happiness shined through, and isn’t that really what people need in their life?  And as of today, a whopping 1840 people have visited my blog! Pretty amazing if you ask me!

So, I thought I would share some more photos of My Girl, Savannah and give the Top Ten Facts about Savannah!

1) Everyone Loves Savannah! Yep, the mailwomen, the people at Starbucks, Great Grandma and Great PaPa, and one of her best buddies….Jaden

Jaden and Savannah snuggling at bedtime!

2) Savannah loves to enjoy the weather outside, cold or hot, it doesn’t matter, she just loves the outside! (Well as long as the snow doesn’t get between her toes….then she would much rather be in her fluffy bed!)

Even though today was cold, Savannah wanted to go outside and gaze into the pond!

3) Savannah loves to lay on the rug and soak up the sun in the window and gaze outside!

Looking out the patio window in the kitchen, one of her favorite places!

4) Loves to go camping too! Her favorite part….getting up late!

I think I'll lay here just a little bit longer!

5) Like to watch movies in the camper too! I think it was Lassie!  :o)

This is a great show!

6) Loves pillows! This pillow was originally mine! One of those great comfy body pillows! Well, it fell on the floor during the night while I was sleeping. When I woke up in the morning, she wasn’t sleeping in her normal bed, but in this new fluffy body pillow. Well, I didn’t have the heart to take it away from her, so this pillow is now a part of her pillow collection!

I'm going to pretend I don't see her, maybe she won't take this pillow away from me!

7) Just hanging around by my side! Wherever I go, she seems to follow! It’s so sweet!

My Girl

8) Savannah was a great Therapy Dog! It’s a tough job for such a sensitive little girl! One day we visited a man who just suffered from a stroke, he started sobbing when we were visiting him. Savannah stood like a statue! After we left the room, she whimpered ever so softly to go outside! (no, barking allowed in the hospital) So, I brought her out, she got sick and we had to leave. All weekend, she was laying around the house sad! The next week, well she made someone’s day and she was happy! I wish I could have continued with the program,  it was very rewarding to brighten up a sick patients day, although difficult at the same time! I give nurses so much credit, such a tough job!

9) Just hanging out and soaking up the sun!

I don't care that it's cold out here! My New Year's resolution is to slow down a bit!

10) Just being pleasant and enjoying our company wherever we go!

My Girl!

03 My Girl (Stereo) A happy little tune about My Girl!

My Girl, enjoying the porch and the flowers!

It’s a still, bright and warm morning here in Northern Illinois! This time of year things are a bit quiet in the perennial garden as the days have been quite hot! I was awakened by the sounds of the birds this morning! The two syllable voice of the bright red Cardinal is my most favorite eloquent speech from a bird! I must say, I think I am starting to get a little used to this change in my sleeping habits! I’m normally not an early bird, but must say, the mornings are glorious! (I never thought I would say that!)  So, I decided, no better time than now for me and Savannah to wander outside and checkout the morning!

So, as usual, Savannah is perky right away as she hears my footsteps on the floor! There is no coaxing or begging or even morning crankiness from My Girl, what a delight! She is just incredible. So, I thought it would be a nice little blog to share with all of you! When there are times I’m not quite feeling myself, I think that’s a perfect time to learn from my dog! Imagine if all of us lived like our dogs!

Oh how I love this! I can sit here all day long!

For instance, yesterday when I got home from work, I opened the patio door, and of course, there goes My Girl with me out the door….she didn’t even question the blazing heat! Nope, she danced out the door wagging her tail anxious to lay leisurely on the grass and gaze into still glassy pond. It was a perfect time to spruce her hair up a bit as I’m sure it’s pretty warm in that long fur coat that she wears! So, she enjoyed her hair being brushed and in between would get up to hug me as she likes to do! I wish everyone could have a Savannah of their own!

So, I decided, this bright and cheerful morning made me want to dress cool and cheerful for this warm sunny day! So, I grabbed a yellow and green striped top (all pretty sunshiny colors, my favorites), my favorite Peridot and Lemon Quartz earrings, a Peridot bracelet and a Peridot and Green Amethyst ring! My Girl, the sun, my pretty jewelry, I’m already feeling a bit perkier myself!

So, enjoy the happy little song, My Girl (Savannah) enjoying the morning porch and flowers and Today’s Blooms! (click on the photos to see it larger) And, when you need a break from all the warm sun and are taking a computer break, look at my Etsy shop! Inspired by my garden, I have been enjoying making some fine silver pieces! The mix of vintage looking fine silver and the perfect alluring gemstones, make a stunning piece of enduring jewelry! I really love them!

Well, it’s time to get rolling and hit the road soon! Enjoy your day….and take a lesson from My Girl and take time to smell the flowers!

Love and Peace….Linda

My Favorite Little Girl!

I Love My DogAnimal Assisted Therapy(Click to download and enjoy the music while you read my blog! Cat Stevens/Yusuf one of my favorite artists!)

We live right next to Hooved Animal Human Society. It’s a non profit organization that rehabilitates abused and rescued horses. So, they had a fund raiser one day and we decided it would be a fun thing to bring Jaden to! Jaden is our WONDERFUL little grandson! So, he loved it and we had a great time. So, we had one more place to look….let’s go in the barn and see what’s going on! In we walked and we see Collie Rescue!

I couldn’t believe my eyes, I saw the most beautiful collie ever! The year before we camped next to a couple who had two beautiful tri-color collies, and before that, it had been years since I saw one. Growing up, the farmer next to our family had a collie for a pet, and of course there were Lassie memories. Well, I fell in love with that beautiful collie! We had been talking about getting a dog, and what nicer way than one that needs a home! So, we filled out adoption papers and went home to see if they would indeed have one for us!

So we went home and talked a bit about bringing a dog into our family again. Mike of course tried to reason with me, although it was his initial thought that I needed a dog to keep me company when the nights were lonely and I was alone! He made sure to remind me it was all the things I didn’t want, a big dog and hair to name a couple of thoughts! Of course I immediately dismissed the practical side of those reasons and immediately justified it with the comment, but it’s Lassie!

Well, a short time after that, we were visiting the foster home that Savannah was staying at until she had a permanent home to go to. She was super quiet and of course just beautiful and we thought she liked us! The next step, we had to pass a home inspection and her foster parents had to approve of our home and her environment she’d be living in! So, a couple weeks later, in came Savannah to visit. We were all ready for her, new dishes and beds and so curious to see how she would be! Our shy little girl liked her new home! We couldn’t officially adopt her for one month, just to make sure she was a good fit in our family!

Instantly I knew I was blessed with a little angel dog! She followed me everywhere! Sat by my side, slept on my side of the bed and oh, she gave me so much love! I told Mike that I felt like an angel brought her to me, I couldn’t believe how sweet she was. I knew she could make anyone feel better!

Mike came home one day with a clip out of the newspaper. A hospital about an hour from our home wanted to bring a new type of therapy to their hospital…an Animal Assisted Therapy program. The Team would be the animal and their trainer. The team would go room to room to visit the patients. So, immediately I knew that Savannah was the right candidate!

The inspection and qualifications of the team were pretty tough! To be awarded this position in the hospital required strict training and certification. The first group had over 45 applicants, and out of all those interested, 14 of us were approved and awarded this honorable position.

The program is a success and now dogs visit patients on every floor. I immensely enjoyed the time that Savannah and I were a team there!

There are many books available on the subject! I couldn’t get my hands on enough reading material! A nice subject to read about!

I wish that  you could visit with my girl in person! We just love her!

Love and Peace
